Exploring Industrial Computer Solutions
Even though the field of industrial computer solutions has not been under the spotlight for some time, numbers of solutions have been introduced to the market with cutting edge technology during last few years. The case is that, these new introductions have become popular only among industries and scarcely among the general public.
During mid nineties, industrial computer solutions started focusing on embedded systems. They started as simple software running in a small device which had a limited number of inputs and outputs. In some cases, they were equipped with a LCD display where they were designed for more advanced usage. Nowadays we see that embedded systems for industrial computer solutions have come a long way, with time. Thus, we experience the results through devices which include sophisticated micro processors and advanced operating systems, governed by quality and safety standards.
Most of these industrial devices now contain x86 based processor architecture and occasionally RISC based processors as well. Also, these devices are now equipped with more sophisticated measuring and sensing mechanisms such as infrared, laser, radio waves etc. One good example is 5.8 GHz long range readers. This device can be used for control of parking areas, automation of logistics etc.
With the advancement and the wide application of industrial computer solutions, the need arose for quality and safety standards. Many governing bodies have implemented a variety of standards for these devices such as ISO 15693 by ISO and IEEE regulations for parallel and serial interfaces. On the other hand, industrial communication protocols are also governed by many regulatory bodies to ensure the interoperability of industrial computer devices.
