How to Take Good Care of Your Hair and Scalp

Eat fruits that are good for your hair.
Avocado is one of the best. It has rich conditioning properties due to its natural essential oils. It is able to moisturize your hair and increase hair growth. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamin A. It also provides good sunscreen protection. Citrus fruits are also good for the hair because of their rich antioxidants and vitamin C that enhance circulation to your scalp.

Avoid harsh treatments.
Avoid hair dyes that contain lead that is usually used in hair blackening shampoos that are available commercially for self application. Also, hair dyes can cause skin irritation and allergy. Hair dyes can also cause your hair to become dry, frizzy and brittle. The chemicals will destroy the natural oil and nutrients of your mane.

Do not “rebond” or curl your hair more than once a year.
The heat applied when rebonding or perming your hair more than once a year can destroy the hair. Heat can cause falling hair and overcooked hair.

Use mild shampoo and conditioner.
Harsh components in shampoo or conditioner can cause skin allergy or irritation and may cause dandruff or worsen it if you already have it. Good quality of shampoo should be able to remove the dirt from your hair and scalp without irritating them.

Massage your scalp while shampooing.
This will relax your head, and is good for managing and avoiding dandruff. Scratching your head will aggravate dandruff as it will irritate your scalp more. If you massage your head gently while shampooing, this will allow your scalp to relax and for the dandruff to loosen and fall off more easily.

Rinse your hair properly after shampooing.
Improper rinsing usually leads to irritation of the scalp such as itching and dandruff. It might also leave your hair sticky or damaged due to the lather that has not been washed off properly. Allot enough time for bathing to avoid rushing.

Comb your hair properly.
Usually the hair gets tangled after bath. To avoid worsening the tangle or causing your hair to tangle, use a comb with wide spaces in between first to make it easier to comb and avoid tangles. Using this type of comb is also advisable for people with curly hair. You may use a comb with finer teeth or narrower spaces after to straighten and smoothen your hair.

Allow your hair to dry completely before tying or knotting your hair.
Tying your hair while still wet will not allow air to dry your hair. It will also give you a sticky feeling because dust and dirt will adhere to your hair more easily due to wet hair.

Avoid using hot air to dry your hair.
This can cause falling hair. Let your hair dry by itself, or use cold air to dry it if you are in a hurry such as the electric fan.

Comb your hair when you get home from outdoors.
This will help remove dust and dirt from your hair. Do not comb your hair too frequently as this might cause your hair to break , but do comb your hair a few times during the day. It is said that combing your hair will help distribute the natural oils and avoid the sebum from getting stuck in your scalp that causes dandruff. Combing will also help prevent dirt and dust from accumulating especially on your scalp which when acted by bacteria can cause scalp itchiness and dandruff.

Do not use other people’s hair accessories.
The comb is just as personal as the toothbrush. Dandruff and lice are among the most common scalp and hair problems contracted with either poor hygiene or using other people’s personal belongings.

Use sunblock for your hair and scalp when going to the beach.
Even the scalp gets sunburned. Sunburned scalp leads to dry, flaky scalp that appears like dandruff. There are available hair and scalp sunblock on the market that are usually in spray bottles.
