Food allergies affect adults and children alike. The difference is that many people grow out of their childhood food allergies as they grow up. For certain others, it is a life time struggle.
I know a person who could get killed by eating a piece of water melon. When she eats water melon, she would contract allergies in her skin, all over her body and get heart palpitations which cause blockage of breathing. The origin of her condition is a drug her mom has been exposed to while being pregnant.
I’m sure you have heard and maybe even going through similar situations. So let’s explore more about food allergies in kids. The first thing to do after taking your kid to a doctor when you realize that your kid has an allergy for a certain food is to educate them not to eat that food type again. Kids often give in to temptations; especially if they are allergic to irresistible things such as chocolates or peanuts. So it’s up to you to tell them and educate them about the harsh consequences food allergies can bring about, if they wouldn’t comply.
Food allergies, for the most part, happen because the immune system looses its sanity. The usual job of the immune system is to protect the body from germs and diseases. In this process they create antibodies which fight off bacteria, viruses and other such organism in the body. However, when somebody has a food allergy, that means that the immune system mistakenly treats something in a certain food as it is really dangerous.
The most common symptoms of food allergies are runny nose, itchy skin, tightness in the throat, hoarse voice, wheezing, cough, nausea, vomiting, stomach pains and diarrhea and in worse case scenario, anaphylaxis; a condition of sudden, severe allergic reaction where several problems occur at once.
So if you know what the killer is, keep your kids away from those food. Get to know what this particular food contains and avoid food with similar ingredients. It may sound harsh, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have to restrict your little ones of the tastes they like. Switch to alternative food with similar flavoring that support food allergies and you should be done!
